minor firmware update 0.963 for CT5 revision k and l

Summary:
This minor update fixes a bug in mode 1. No new features are added.

Relevant links:
Firmware release 0.963 for rev k,l
Installation Instructions

Detail:
Bug fix Mode 1:
Turning on modulation in Mode 1 via the LEN B knob (Q switch down, turn LEN B) introduced some artifacts in the audio depending on it's resting position. This has been fixed. This bug was not present in 0.96 but was introduced in version 0.962

To enable modulation hold down the Q switch in Mode 1. Turning FBK will control the depth of the modulation (cCW = no depth, CW = Max Depth). Turning LEN B controls the speed (CCW = slowest speed, CW = fastest speed). On power up both speed and depth are set to their minimum values.

Special thanks to TM for reporting this issue.

Detail:
Mode 1:
Holding the soft footswitch mutes the write head so the data in the buffer stops changing. Effectively it will just keep looping what is in the buffer while you hold down the soft footswitch. When you release the footswitch the mode behaves as it previously did.

Here are some updates to FAQs

Will you make more 856 for ZELLERSASN pedals?
Yes, we are working on more. We will hopefully have them in December.

Will you make more count to 5 pedals?
Yes, we should have more available by the end of the week (~Oct 14). We will announce it to the mailing list as soon as they are in the store.

Will you make more your and you're?
Yes, should have more available by the end of the week as well, if not we will have some the following week.

Can i prepay/pre order any pedal?
No, sorry but we do not do pre orders anymore. The best way to know when we have stock is to check the store and/or sign up for the newsletter.

Will you be re releasing any of the "retired" designs?
Some may get revamped eventually, but there is not much in the works at the moment for making that happen. We have a few other simple designs scheduled to come out before the end of the year so it is unlikely any of the retired designs will get made again in 2016.

Do you ship to (insert country here)?!?
We are able to ship to almost anywhere worldwide including Europe, Russia, South east Asia, Australia, South America etc. I have yet to have an order from someone who lived somewhere we could not ship.

Here are some updates to FAQs

Will you make more count to 5 pedals?
Yes, they are in the store as of today . If these sell out we will have more in about 6 weeks (October).

Why won't you tell me more about 856 you @$$H@le?
The release of this has been delayed mostly due to the vacations we have all taken this summer. We now have fifty complete and will sell them around the second week of September, once everyone is back and we can support the product properly. The price point will be around 350-400 usd. We will likely be attending a stompbox exhibit in NYC around September 10th and have one you can try if that it local to you.

Will you make more your and you're?
Yes we are currently making another small batch, i expect some will be available by the first week of September. There was a simple demo made here.

New firmware 0.96 for rev k, l boards

Summary:
In this update I tried to experiment a bit more with some new features in mode 1. Mode 3 also has some new questionable features. Visual feedback was added to help selecting Q modes. Some minor bugs were fixed.

Only the changes below are implemented. If it is not in the list then it is not in the firmware update. This file will only work on rev k or l boards.

Relevant links:
Firmware release 0.96 for rev k,l
Installation Instructions
Quick 1 page reference card for firmware 0.96k

Detail:
All modes: changing Q mode will cause the LED to blink white for a short period. When the Q mode selected is the non-quantized setting, the LED will blink for a longer period. This way you can know where in the list of Q modes you are more easily. In total there are 6 Q modes so you should have 5 short blinks and one long blink every 6 taps of the Q switch.

Mode 1:
Holding the soft footswitch no longer allows you to adjust the low pass filter. Instead hold Q down and turn DIR 1 to access this feature. Holding the soft switch down for a long period currently has no effect in mode 1.

With Q down you can also now activate a sinusoidal LFO to modulate DIR 1. The frequency can be adjusted by turning LEN B and the depth can be adjusted with FBK. To disable the LFO simply turn FBK fully CCW with Q held down (depth of zero = no effect). The LFO is relatively slow and subtle, this is the range I prefer. It may be tweaked in future firms.

With Q up you can adjust 2 parameters of a trigger which causes the read head to move a certain distance away from the write head when the amplitude of the input signal breaks a certain threshold. DIR 1 adjusts the sensitivity/threshold level of the trigger, CCW makes it more sensitive (lower amplitude required to break the threshold). Fully CW turns off the trigger. LEN B will adjust the relative distance the read head is placed after a trigger event (in the positive direction). When a trigger event occurs the LED will flash white briefly, this should help you adjust the sensitivity level. The LED will stay white while input is above threshold. The trigger is generated at the moment the LED turns white. No further triggers are generated while the LED is white. At power up the trigger is disabled, the distance is one half LEN B.

Regardless of Q position or sensitivity level, tapping the soft footswitch can also be used to generate a trigger and move the read head the specified distance away. This way you do not actually have to play to cause a trigger or if you want to trigger on a softer note than the trigger level requires, you can tap and play at the same moment.

The expression pedal can only be used to adjust the 3 default parameters (Q in middle position). To adjust the parameters which require Q to be pushed up or down, you must use the physical knob on the pedal, regardless of E position or whether or not an expression pedal is plugged in.

Mode 2:
No changes.

Mode 3:
With Q up you can now step modulate DIR 1, 2, 3. The steps are random, but are also affected by the quantizer, so for example if you are in the whole tone quantization then you will get only  random whole tone settings.  DIR 1 will control the tempo, DIR 2 the variance and DIR 3 sets how many of the playback heads are affected by the step sequencer. From fully CCW to ~1/4 of the range no heads are affected (sequencer is off), from 1/4 to noon only DIR 3 is affected, noon to 3/4 DIR 2 and 3, and past 3/4 DIR 1, 2, 3 are stepped. At power up the sequencer is disabled. To enable it hold Q up and rotate FBK CW.

The loops are not reset when a step occurs so this tends to make things somewhat rhythmically incoherent, but can be interesting with more droney or vocal loops. For best results try to play something in a key similar to the quantization style.

Other bug fixes:
Bug: when flipping from Mode 2 to Mode 1 with no loop playing and transcendence on, the buffer lengths in Mode 1 would be incorrect. This has been fixed and now seems to work as expected.

Bug: DIR 1 does not achieve exactly 2x forward speed in non-quantized mode. This has been adjusted.

Recent FAQ

Because I am a quite behind on emails from the last several weeks, here is a FAQ that will answer the majority of the questions. I will still answer all emails in time, hopefully by mid next week. You are not being ignored, however I am facing a large volume of emails so please be patient.

I have not received shipping notification yet?!
We have shipped all the orders so if you did not get notification or a pedal, please send an email with your order number.

When will you open more pre orders?!
It's not likely that there will be more pre orders for the count to five pedal, however, we are making more and they will eventually be available directly through our store. We should have some available by the end of July. You can also sign up for the newsletter to receive updates regarding the companies activity.

I received my Ct5 unit but i don't understand how to...?!#$?!
Please check out the ct5 manual page. If you still have questions please post them in the comments section of the manual page. Another good place to ask questions is the ilf megathread.

I received my unit but the "Q" switch is broken!!@@!
The Q switch is momentary, unlike M and E. Please read the manual above to see what it is supposed to do and if you feel it is still broken please read the next question below. Mechanically it is not the same as M or E, this is completely normal.

I received my unit but it is not working OR I already had one but now it is malfunctioning
Please see our new returns information page.

I already have a unit in for repair, when will it come back??!!
All outstanding repairs should be processed in the next two weeks.

I paid shipping twice, once on the pre order and once on the balance payment, how can I get refunded??!!
I have started refunding people who paid shipping twice but am still going through all the payments. If you feel this applies to you and you have not yet received a refund please do not hesitate to email me.

What is the latest ct5 board revision? what are the differences?!?
The most recent board is rev l. There is no major hardware change between rev k and rev l. We shipped just under 600 units this run, ~150 were rev k, the rest are rev l. Again, there is no significant difference between the k and l board revisions.

Can you please give me more info regarding 856 for ZELLERSASN?!???
We will announce more info when we have some ready to sell. Hopefully within the next 30 days. There is also a small amount of info in this thread.

What happened to the international non-tracked shipping option?!?
While up to the most recent run we did not have any issues with this service, we have now had several people reporting longer than usual delivery times and/or non delivered packages. So we have stopped offering it to clients as it seems to have become unreliable.

Do you ship to (insert country here)?!?
We are able to ship to almost anywhere worldwide including Europe, Russia, South east Asia, Australia, South America etc. I have yet to have an order from someone who lived somewhere we could not ship.

Jan/feb/march/april pre order now shipping

We are now taking balance payments and shipping pedals from the pre order that opened Jan 23 2016 and closed ~ April 12 2016.

You can make payment at the webstore by checking out with the "Count to five balance payment" item. We also have a few blems available for 25 dollars off. You can check out the details in the "Count to five balance blem" item.

I have sent an email to everyone with a pre order, however if you did not get it you can read any fine print from that email below.

1) The shipping address you use now for the "balance" payment is the shipping address it will go to. Please take a moment to make sure it is correct. The address used for the "pre order" item will be ignored, so if you moved since then or want to use a different address, all you have to do is put the address you want it to go in the checkout info for the balance payment.

2) **Canadians/Canadian addresses ONLY** have the option to pay in CAD via interac e transfer. We offer the median exchange rate as found on xe.com. At this moment 175 USD is 219.60 CAD. To pay with this method please send an interac e transfer to me directly at mtl.asm@gmail.com, do not use paypal. Please include the tictail order number of you pre order in the e transfer comments. If you prefer to use paypal you must pay in USD, in which case just follow the web store check out as usual.

3)We will begin shipping on Monday May 2. As there are several hundred units to ship, not all the units will ship in one day, however we will do our best to ship everything ASAP. I expect it to take about 2 weeks to send out all the packages. You will receive notification with tracking number (if applicable) within 24 hours of when you order ships.

4)If you cannot pay the balance immediately please don't sweat it. We will hold your pedal for at least several weeks and contact you if we do not have any payment then. We are quite flexible on the timing of the balance payment.

EDIT: 5)If you want to pickup the pedal in person that is also OK. In this case you can either pay online and select Canadian shipping (free) OR pay cash (Canadian currency only) in person. Please email me in advance to arrange coming to the studio.

Please contact me directly at mtl.asm@gmail.com or post in the comments if you have any questions.

Update: current ct5 run, future runs etc

At the moment I am still waiting for the main pcb assemblies to arrive which have been delayed a few times since late December. They are scheduled now to ship to me on or before Jan 19. I will be able to start shipping the current run within about two days of receiving the pcbs since we have everything else finished and waiting/have already assembled/verified several rev k pcbs and they are working great . At that time I will open up the balance payment option in the store and we will finally get these moving out. I will also open more orders around the same time, if not a few days before.

I wish to extend a special thank you to people waiting on the last batch for their patience, we are extremely close to shipping this project.
